5600xt thats still a nice card, cant you just buy something like the zalman heatpipe thing the passive cooler for it?
ah a shuttle... hmmm, I did see mention of an x300 or something with passive heatsink design. I'll see if I can find the magazine article.

wat sort of budget u looking at??
u could get an x800xl as its better than the 6800gt and is a budget card well, if 200 quid is budget but it aint too noisy and u could always put an artic cooler on it as they are meant to be quiet, plus it would play hl2 lovely :D
or get a 2nd hand 9800 pro / 6600gt:p

my budget is classed under "straigt swap" if at all possible
and jimmy read the post ITS A SHUTTLE, so no arctic cooler - otherwise thats what i have done already

I think the fastest passive you can fit in a shuttle is a 9600XT Ultimate, althoug I'm sure somebody will correct me:) Unfortunately, I don't have one to swap you:(

Isn't the 9600XT Ultimate just a normal 9600XT with the Zalman Heatpipe already added??? Or is it a special small heatpipe specifically designed for the card?
P.S. I've got a Zalman Heatpipe on my 9600XT and I think it only takes up 1 PCI slot, so may fit, though it prefers to have a spare empty one next to it for air flow!!

thats the problem really, the agp slot is right next to the edge of the case, but there are air holes in the side of the case just next to the fan, which is why its so noisy

I find it interesting the difference between what different people call noisy. I never even notice loud fans until someone actually points it out to me. Mind you nobody in this family (including me) ever sits at a computer without blasting music out at high volume.

Its a smaller heatsink Paddy and fits in the shuttle. Your right, the standard Zalman only takes 1 PCI slot nut in a standard mobo that is below the AGP slot. Because of the positioning of the AGP slot in the shuttle you can't get the case lid back on with a zalman on.
BBP, there is an alternative but it needs a bit of modding. There is an Aerocool silent cooler that almost fits and with a little bit of trimming will do the job. Sharky did it and put a thread up on Kustom forums showing what he did, he's on here as well so maybe drop him a PM.
