View Full Version : useless kwik fit

today i made a mistake cos i was lazy. My tracking was out and the car was pulling to the right which is annoying. So i nipped into the kwik fit at the end of my road and they said that for £25 they'd put it all straight for me.
So they set to work, told me it was miles out and spent ages putting it stright. After about 30 mins all was done and i paid and left. Drove off and noticed the wheel was no longer straight and the car was pulling more than ever. Took it back and asked what was up, they said the cambre must be out which they can't fix.
So off i went to another garage, they looked at it and said the tracking was still miles out and spent ages getting it straight again. Cost me another £30 for them to look at it and get it straight.
Apparently after kwik fit looked at it, the tracking was about 3mm out still, which they said was quite a lot.
Moral of the story, avoid kwik fit forever!!!

Either way, they're generally a bunch of useless wankers.

Haven't used 'em for ages. Been ripped off once too often.
Hi-Q for me every time.

My last experience with KwikFit: (Wouldn't normally use them, but they were nearby!)
Conversation between me and Kwik Fit Bloke (KFB).
Me, Please repair this tyre?
KFB: Takes tyre away.
15 mins pass:
KFB returns:
"Sorry mate, we can't fix it, it, you'll need a new tyre, it will be £175,00 plus fitting and will take two days to arrive. If you have a credit card I'll ring it through for you."
Me: Hold up a minute, it's just a puncture, why can't you fit it?
Well, eerm, it's a low profile tyre and it's too near the shoulder. [Shows me the location of the puncture.]
Me: But that is on almost the exact same plane as that other repair just near it,
KFB: Yeah, but that is within six inches of the last repair so we can't do it! UK law!
Me: So now you are changing your story? Never mind, give it back, I'll take it to the guy I usually take it to.
KFB: He'll just tell you the same story.
Me: I doubt it, but regardless, he does me the same tyre for £105 including fitting, so I wouldn't buy the new one from you anyway
KFB: Well, the tyre is off the rim now, if i put it back on it will need balaning and I can't do that if it has a puncture.
Me: That's OK, I don't want it back on the rim. Just give me the tyre and the rim, and he'll put it back on after he has repaired the puncture.
KFB: (Realising he is going to lose all business now) "Well, when I say we can't repair it, I don't mean we "can't" repair it. We can use some specialist stuff, it's not cheap though, about 20 quid."
Me: Sorry to bother you, give me back my wheel.
KFB: OK, I'll dispose of this tyre for you.
Me: "AND THE TYRE" !!!!!!! :slap:
Fools!
Took both rim and tyre to my usual bloke, he said he had never heard of any such law, that the repair was no problem with standard stuff, fixed the tyre, put it back on the rim and balanced it all for a fiver! :slayer:

I've found them okay for tyres and exhausts. I don't think I'd dare ask them to touch the tracking though.

I was well looked after by their Otley branch in August when I split my silencer box somewhere between Dunbar and Leeds ( didn't notice till I got off the A1 )
Phoned them up, they asked a few questions and came up with the right unit even though it was a changeover model. Arranged a time to fit it, Sorted. :) Price wasn't too bad either . So I guess they can do some things (if not tracking)

I think it depends if there are other garages in the area.
If so, the better garages probably get the best mechanics/fitters. If a town only has one or two garages, then they've probably got plenty to choose from.
Otley's only a small town. Nice. But small.
Bought two cars from there recently.:)

My only real experince of Kwik Fit comes from here in Sheffield (city road) and the job they did was not up to scratch. A few weeks ago my exhaust was in very bad shape, they could get me the parts and fit it for £80, i got the parts myself and got someone i know to fit it all for £35 :)
I suppose they are handy for the little things like tyres, wheel balance but i don't trust those fucking kids playing with my car.
While i was watching my car get done an employee drove up in his 106, like a bat out of hell, then reversed faster than i've ever seen a car go backwards with music blasting. Got out throwing his fag end in front on the garage. Walked in in his jeans and kwik fit shirt. Not the best of appearences.

well....
i used to use quickfit in bedford and they were very good, but if my exhaust went then i'd buy the bits and do it myself... we havent got a tame tyre fitter at work so i still have to go somewhere for that. we have a very good place down the road... family run independant dealer...

I used a Kwik Fit in Bristol for two new tyres - very very over priced. for two new tyres balance and swap over etc, cost me not far off £100 and that was for the cheapest tyres. A small local garage does the same tyres etc and would have done tracking for a total of £50.

So would I normally, but circumstances being what they were, getting someone else to do it was really my only option.
