Once upon a time - a long long time ago, we hooked our kids up over the network to the color laserjet after telling them only to use it for something important. After an unbelievable amount of rubbish came out of it, we suspended their priveledges and they haven't had access to a printer for a very long time.
Now they've asked me again if they can do printing, but I can't hook them up to it again till we've got a new drum kit.
I was just wondering if there was any way of giving them some sort of restrictive access to a printer - like a limit of how many pages they could print at a time, or a crap monitoring system :shifty:
Any ideas?

Never put any paper until you are ready to print something. If they want to print they have to ask you for paper from your secure store and justify why they want it.

spose I could do that with my inkjet, but they'll soon learn where to put the paper and it's at their height - they already have a paper allowance for drawing and writing and stuff - and I'd rather they put the right paper in it than ............ toilet paper ..... an old envelope ............

There are ways aye, well I know you can restrict "working hours" for the printer.
And you can allocated print job priority, so im pretty sure there may be a way of limiting number of pages printed.
Ohh oooh! I think you can also charge them money for it, might be an idea, if they have an "allowance" charge them for using the printer.
Edit: Seems as if theres no "page limit" option on the printers here in work at least, only working time limits and print priorities. However I know there is 3rd party software out there that gives user accounts "credit" that can be used up when printing. Charge the littleun's a little for each time they print and that way you can control what they print :)

there are definitely programs out there fluffy - there in most schools
at my secondary we got a print credit of 50 and had to go and ask for more added if we used it - obviously if you went regularly, questions were asked
and we have to go to machines on walls and put cash in to get a print balance at uni - robbing gets

Yep same here, engineering department gives you 50 quids worth of credit free and then if you need more just ask (just to limit some of the printing as it used to be completely free), but in the main computer room you have to buy credit at 6p per page!!!!
